How it works

Film one swing
Down the line or face on, either works. Prop your phone at hip height, keep your whole body in frame from setup to finish, and use slow motion if your phone has it.
Your phone analyzes it
Pick the video and tap Get my score. Your phone tracks your body frame by frame, finds the top and impact, and scores it. The video never has to leave your phone.

What we measure
The fundamentals a coach looks for
Body tracking follows you frame by frame, so your score reflects how you actually move, not how you think you move. Anything your camera angle can't show is left out, never guessed.
Tempo
Your backswing-to-downswing ratio, next to the Tour range of 2.5 to 3.1 to 1.
Speed through the ball
How quickly you come down, compared with Tour players.
Lead arm at the top
Whether your lead arm stays extended or collapses.
Hip stability
Turning your hips versus sliding them sideways.
Posture through impact
Keeping your forward bend or standing up through the ball (down the line).
Head movement
Sway and drift that move the bottom of your swing.
Finish
A full, balanced finish versus stopping short.

FAQ
Questions golfers ask
What do I need?
A phone that records video and a place to swing. A tripod, or something to lean your phone against, gets you steady footage. Nothing to buy, no sensors, no app to install.
Which angle should I film?
Either. Down the line (from behind you, looking at the target) shows posture through impact. Face on (camera facing you) shows head and hip movement well. One video gets a full score; anything that angle can't show is simply left out, never guessed. A second angle is welcome but optional.
Should I use slow motion?
Yes, if your phone has it. Film in slow motion (120 or 240 frames per second) with the camera app and upload that original video. Avoid slow motion that was edited or re-saved by another app: its timing can't be trusted, and we'll tell you so instead of scoring it.
Does my video get uploaded?
No, not unless you want it to. Your phone does the analysis. If you save a swing, we keep the score and the measurements in your private account, and the video only if you tick the box to save it.
Why didn't I get a score?
If we have reasonable doubt about the footage, we'd rather say so than give you a wrong number. The usual causes are being too small in the picture, the video cutting off part of the swing, or edited slow motion. We'll tell you what went wrong and how to fix it for the next video.
How accurate is the score?
Every score comes with a plus-or-minus range, like 78 ± 6. The range is wider when the footage gives us less to go on, such as a single angle, a low frame rate, or a golfer far from the camera. We calibrate the score against swings from Tour players, college players and beginners, and keep refining it as more golfers use it.
Does it track the club?
Not in your score yet. Club tracking is in testing, and it only goes live once it's reliable. Until then your score comes from how your body moves.
My video won't open. What do I do?
iPhones record in a "High Efficiency" format that some browsers can't read. Try Safari on iPhone or Chrome on a newer Android phone, or on your iPhone go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible.
Do I need a launch monitor or simulator?
No. Your score comes from your video. Reading simulator screenshots, starting with Trackman, is coming soon.
Who can see my swings?
Only you. Saved swings live in your private account, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete a swing or your account anytime. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can junior golfers use it?
Golfers 13 to 17 can use Golf Swing Score with a parent or guardian's permission. Parent-managed profiles for younger golfers are on the way.
Does it replace lessons with a golf pro?
No. It's a companion to lessons. Golf Swing Score shows you what to work on and tracks your progress between sessions, and gives your pro objective data on how you actually move.
